Montjuic Mk1 and Mk2

MONTJUIC MK 1
Destined from the onset as a classic bike, the monty as it was known enjoyed a short but Exciting entry into the motorcycling world.Production of the monty started in the spring of 1979 after slater laverda approached the factory and suggested the converting of a Formula 500 to a street racer based model. The factory supplied the bikes and slaters designed the fairing and seat unit which was then made by a company named screen and plastics. The engine was a tuned alpino unit using S1 cams, high comp pistons and open carbs with 140 main jets and series 2 F500 open mega exhausts. The bike was an instant success both on the road and race track.Bright orange,105 decibel Exhausts and 120 mph performance was just to much for the eurocrats to allow, sadly the Monty was a victim of its own success and the death warrant was already signed.

MONTJUIC MK 2
1982 saw a revamp of the monty.A new frame mounted fairing was fitted after reports of the Mk1 fairing causing instability and weaving at high speed. The seat unit was also changed to a one piece unit incorporating the side panels.A factory modification also took place on this model. The 4 outer cylinder head/upper crankcase studs were lengthened to allow the use of thicker/stronger cam caps to eliminate spreading and crushing of the cam bearings.

This just about sums up the hooligan image of the kind of person this bike was aimed at...
Speaks for itself doesn't it!!!
